No single agency, person or program can singlehandedly prevent teen pregnancy. Pregnancy prevention can only happen when advocates and investors work directly with the communities that need prevention the most. We are proud to serve as a leader and resource for individuals and agencies helping teens lead healthy lives.

Collaboration with two key populations – young families and our state’s Hispanic population – is an important strategy in our work to prevent teen pregnancy.

Nearly 30% of teen pregnancies in North Carolina happen to teens who have already had at least one baby. Addressing the needs, rights and challenges of teen parents protects the future of multiple generations.

North Carolina’s Hispanic teens also face special challenges. Cultural variances, language barriers and differences of opportunity are just a few of the factors that contribute to a high pregnancy rate in Hispanic teens – a rate that is nearly triple the state’s overall rate.

We must address the vulnerability of these two populations in order to have a significant impact on the overall teen pregnancy rate.
